Engagement Session with Fishing and Games {Joan + Riley}

When Joan and Riley got in touch with us, we knew right away that we would love working with them. They were a young couple in love. In Joan's own words, "Riley loves to play games, boardgames, card games, game you make up, bets, etc. If you make something a game, you could probably get him to do anything." And her? She loves all things crafty and D.I.Y. And, to top it all, one of the things they loved to do together, was to go fishing at Burke Lake! You see where we're going with this, don't you?

From the moment we met Joan and Riley, we were smitten with their wonderful personalities. She was soft-spoken yet bubbly, and he had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. Once we got to Burke Lake, we walked up to Riley's favorite fishing spot, and set up camp. In keeping with their personalities, Joan and Riley plan on incorporating lots of fun and games like croquet and badminton into their wedding celebration this fall. They wanted their engagement session to reflect this aspect of their upcoming big day, and came armed with all sorts of games to play, much to our delight!

As the sun began to set, they slipped into something a little more comfy, and sat by the shore of the lake, dipping their feet in the cool water and waiting for the fish to bite. As we waded knee-deep into the sparkling water to get a better view, we felt silly and elated at the same time. This was certainly our most adventurous session to date. And you can bet we won't be stopping here!

Love Is A Journey {Akera + Toranzo}

Akera and Toranzo decided to make their ten-year romance official last Easter, when he finally popped the question, and she said yes. Seeing as he was in the military and stationed overseas, the lovebirds had a tiny window of time during his visit home this summer, in which to prepare for and put together an engagement session. Not to be deterred, they decided they wanted to do something special, and incorporate their mutual love for travel, as well as her love of all things vintage, to come up with something that was as meaningful to them as it was beautiful.

As with many of the couples we are lucky enough to collaborate with, Akera and Toranzo were all about the details. We absolutely loved the thought they put into designing every aspect of the shoot. The sweltering summer heat was no match for their high spirits and positive attitude. We started out at the historic Alexandria Union Station, whose original one-story brick building is still in use today, and then moved on to the Wilkes Tunnel in Old Town, one of our favorite places to shoot in around town.

Before we ended the session, though, Akera had a special request for us: she wanted us to stop by Grape + Bean, a tiny wine and coffee bar, to take some quick pictures. It's where Toranzo had proposed to her, so naturally it held a very special place in their hearts. Of course, we were only too happy to oblige!

We wish the happy couple every success and joy in their future together, and leave you with this last shot that captures their enduring romance perfectly.
