Love Is A Journey {Akera + Toranzo}

Akera and Toranzo decided to make their ten-year romance official last Easter, when he finally popped the question, and she said yes. Seeing as he was in the military and stationed overseas, the lovebirds had a tiny window of time during his visit home this summer, in which to prepare for and put together an engagement session. Not to be deterred, they decided they wanted to do something special, and incorporate their mutual love for travel, as well as her love of all things vintage, to come up with something that was as meaningful to them as it was beautiful.

As with many of the couples we are lucky enough to collaborate with, Akera and Toranzo were all about the details. We absolutely loved the thought they put into designing every aspect of the shoot. The sweltering summer heat was no match for their high spirits and positive attitude. We started out at the historic Alexandria Union Station, whose original one-story brick building is still in use today, and then moved on to the Wilkes Tunnel in Old Town, one of our favorite places to shoot in around town.

Before we ended the session, though, Akera had a special request for us: she wanted us to stop by Grape + Bean, a tiny wine and coffee bar, to take some quick pictures. It's where Toranzo had proposed to her, so naturally it held a very special place in their hearts. Of course, we were only too happy to oblige!

A Family Affair {Pinita + fam}

Pinita came to us with a request that was at once, unusual and heartwarming. She was the oldest of ten grandchildren, all of whom had one thing in common: they all loved their grandparents very, very much, and wanted to do something special for them. You see, their grandparents, now in their golden years, hadn't had professional pictures done in decades. And Pinita and her cousins were out to change all that. On the occasion of their grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary, the grandchildren had had studio photographs of themselves taken as a present, but this time around, they wanted something less formal; something that truly captured the warm, silly, and above all, loving spirit of their family. This is where we came into the picture.

After some deliberation, we decided to convene at a local park for a laid-back encounter with the entire family. To be honest, we had been warned it would be a rowdy bunch of young adults and we didn't quite know what to expect. But we were more than pleasantly surprised to find that Pinita's family was an adorable, good-natured bunch. The young ones all wanted to pay tribute to their beloved grandparents, and brought along old family photographs that they cherished. It was heartwarming to see such a close-knit family, and we nearly got misty-eyed over their grandparents' sweet romance, even after all these years.

This was an unusual request for a photo session, and certainly pushed us beyond the comfort zone of our regular fare, but we enjoyed every moment of it, and wish this big, happy family nothing but the very best for the years to come!
